Not Your Petting Zoo
Influenced by the novel “Don’t Touch My Hair” by author Emma Dabiri, this filter creates a digital space in which users are invited to empathise with a common black experience. Black people often deal with microagressions and racism towards their hair and are consequently excluded from ideal beauty patterns. Users are cramped within the frame. The overwhelming hands fight to “pet” the subject, putting them in the position of animals and not humans. With this sentiment I hope to both raise awareness but also empower users and celebrate individuality
