Face Value Series: Virtue

Virtue” is a testament to our continuous need to categorise, enhance and reinforce the concept of morality in our everyday lives. The accompanying poem is riddled with questions because the portrait itself is an inquiry. With this Mangueira begs the question: what is virtue? What does it mean to be “good” and how does that look different in varied eyes? Portraits are often created to manipulate audience perspectives into thinking subjects are inherently kind, the “right person”...and consequently more valuable than them. Why is delicate deemed inoffensive? What say you?
