Face Value Series: Power
“Power” is a very loud demonstration of strength and cultural presence. It is a grand and Angolan response to each and every male, white, monarchical renaissance painting done to establish dominance and or authority. These paintings are very important to a canon that excludes African art and renditions of figures of high importance. This is dedicated to all the unique and resilient tribes in Angola, the artist’s home; and the armies that fought Dutch settlers and Portuguese colonisers led by strong and truly powerful women.

Hush…
Listen to the sounds of the weeds whistling
Chirping falls silent
Footsteps get closer
Sand granules vibrate
Following suit of the ground beneath you.
Here they come.
Herculean minds
Melanated flesh
Patterns that fill your soul to the brim.
Breath in.
Look up.
Admire.
Make no mistake.
They are built like fire.
Hush.
